During menopause, a woman’s ovaries tend to produce less oestrogen over time. With the reduced production of this vital hormone,there will appear certain symptoms affecting the vagina.

These symptoms include discomfort during sexual intercourse, itching, inflammation, dryness, etc. The reduced production of estrogen also makes the female organ susceptible to urinary tract infection.

Applying correct doses of oestriol cream can supplement for the reduced production of estrogen in the vagina. With this supplementation comes the reduction of post menstrual symptoms.

Note that the makers of this feminine cream never claimed that their product is a quick fix to any menopausal symptom. What is clearly indicated about this product is that it will require regular use for about a few weeks before the onset of any noticeable improvement.

Using this product is rather easy. Each pack comes with an applicator, which gives you an exact dose that you should apply to your vagina.

The applicator can be inserted into the vagina. Please follow the package instructions on how you should do this.

However, please make sure to follow the application instructions carefully. Take note of the dosages and use the right dosage every time.

The instructions will usually tell you to use oestriol every night for two to three weeks. You will apply one dose of this cream before you go to bed.

That means the usual dosage is one full applicator per dose. That means there will be enough cream on the applicator all the way to the ring.

This dosage will be the equivalent of 0.5 mg or oestriol for every 0.5 grams of the vaginal cream in your package.

Here are the general steps on how to use the applicator that comes with your oestriol package:

1. Remove the cap and turn it upside down (the pointy end should be facing tube)
2. Use the sharp/pointy end to pierce the tube of cream
3. Screw the plastic applicator to the opened tube
4. Squeeze the tube to fill the applicator all the way to the red ring—that should be somewhere near the plunger on the applicator
5. Unscrew the applicator and put the cap back on the tube in its original position
6. Lie down and then insert the applicator into your vagina
7. Slowly push the plunger to apply the cream

Remember to follow the package instructions on how to clean applicator properly. After the two or three week period is completed, you will reduce your dosage application.

Your doctor will adjust the number of applications according to the symptoms that you feel. Come back to your attending physician after the initial 2 or 3 weeks (maximum initial use is 4 weeks).

Take note that estriol creams can damage diaphragms and condoms. That means if you plan on having protected intercourse, you should not use this cream.

Using this cream may not be the best option for women who are sexually active.

If you notice any unusual vaginal bleeding after an application of this cream, you should stop using it immediately and see your doctor. Do take note, however, that side effects of using this cream are rare.

Note that oestriol is one of the safest estrogens that are produced by the body. Medical reports also state that it is effective when used topically and in combination with other drugs.

Nevertheless, there are side effects associated with the use of oestriol creams even though the chances are rare. Here are some of the potential side effects of using this cream:

• Darkening of the skin in some areas of the body
• Fungal infections
• Increased secretions
• Vaginal itching
• Bloating
• Hair loss
• Weight gain
• Headache
• Vomiting
• Nausea
• Breast tenderness
• Dysmenorrhea
• Spotting
• Menstrual changes

Again, the side effects of using oestriol cream are rare. However, if you experience any of the following severe symptoms when using this product, you should seek immediate medical attention:

• Low calcium levels
• Gallbladder disease
• Asthma getting worse
• May increase risk of endometrial cancer
• May increase your risk of endometrial hyperplasia
• May increase the risk of breast cancer
